Which treatments are available at the Prostate Diseases Center?

The prostate is an extremely important organ for men, especially in terms of its effect on reproductive functions. However, the fact that problems in the prostate both reduce the quality of life of men and bring about different health problems increases the importance of the issue.

Prostate diseases that occur especially after the age of 40 are divided into infections and prostate enlargement. Problems also differ depending on the benign and malignant growth of the prostate. Medistate Kavacık Hospital brings a different perspective especially in prostate diseases with the methods used and multidisciplinary treatment approach. Currently, all prostate-related problems are evaluated and treated under the roof of the 'Prostate Diseases Center'.

Why are prostate diseases important?

The prostate is an important organ in men and many diseases can occur here. Some of the enzymes secreted here are also effective in reproductive activities and sperm function. Over time, many diseases can develop due to the enlargement of the prostate. There are two types of growth in the prostate, benign and malignant, and treatments differ accordingly. Another problem that arises in the prostate is infections. These are also problems that affect the patient's life very seriously and must be treated.

Why and how do prostate infections occur?

Infections are divided into acute infections that develop suddenly and chronic infections that have been going on for a long time. Urinary complaints manifest themselves with pain in the area we call the crotch. It is often caused by bacterial and infectious agents. When these infections are left untreated, they cause a chronic and inflammatory condition and constantly disturb the patient. This condition often occurs in men who have a lot of sexual intercourse; these people constitute an important risk group. Men whose partners have an infection are also in the risk group. However, sometimes even if these risks are present, an infectious agent alone can lead to the development of a secondary prostate infection after a urinary tract infection.

What methods are used to treat infection?

Urine and prostate fluids must be evaluated in order to diagnose a problem mostly seen in young adults. The treatment approach mostly involves antibiotics. In addition, there are some heat treatments and even different treatment methods up to the removal of the prostate. However, for these, the patient needs to be diagnosed correctly. If the patient is not treated, the disease becomes chronic in a short time and the treatment of prostate infections that reach this point becomes difficult. This is because infections become resistant to drugs and can disrupt the patient's comfort of life.

A common problem for men after 40: Prostate enlargement

Why is the prostate enlarging?

The prostate is a gland structure. It has a capsule on the outside and two walnut-sized organs inside, through which the urethra passes. The prostate secretes enzymes, one of which is PSA. This plays an important role in the development of sperm function. The prostate starts to grow with age. Normally 20 gr. prostate increases up to 40-50 gr. in the 40s. During this growth, it can put pressure on the urinary canal and prevent urine from coming out easily. This condition occurs in 50 percent of men and about 40 percent of them have these problems. Although the exact cause of prostate enlargement is not known, genetic and hormonal factors are thought to be effective. Because with age, the male hormone decreases and the estrogen hormone increases and this imbalance can result in prostate enlargement.

Does an enlarged prostate cause disease in every man?

Not every growth may cause complaints. However, if there is obstruction in the urinary tract due to growth, then the patient has urinary symptoms. Frequent urination, nighttime urination, burning and bifurcation in urine, and problems with the flow of urine may occur. At the point where it progresses the most, the urine becomes very thin and eventually leads to the inability to urinate.

What is the goal of treatment?

The treatment is either aimed at shrinking the prostate or relaxing the tract. The prostate tract can be loosened with medication and urine can be released easily. If the patient does not benefit from this treatment, the pathway is opened by shaving the prostate without harming the patient with minimally invasive methods. The main methods used are prostate surgeries using a laser device and surgeries using plasma kinetic method. If the prostate is over 100 g, the bladder is opened with open surgery and the prostate is removed completely. After this operation, the patient can be discharged on the second day and return to his normal life after two days of rest.

Are there complications of surgeries?

Patients are especially curious about whether their sexual function will be affected by the surgery. These surgeries have no serious complications in the short or long term. There are no serious side effects on either male function or urinary incontinence. However, if the surgery is not performed very effectively and within the correct limits, it may have a negative effect on these functions. Therefore, choosing an experienced physician and hospital is of great importance.
